[June 17, 2023] I have used Reddit in stealth mode for the last 7-8 years. I had three accounts at different points in this period, accumulating over 200,000 karma. It is finally time to hang the boots. Reddit is actively being hostile to the very people who contribute good answers and moderate (large) communities. Without the help of Apollo or Sync, it will be extremely hard for the power user to navigate the different posts and settings. At this point, reading the Verge interview, I feel Reddit CEO/arsonist-in-chief did not have a plan to monetize his site. Rather the action speaks of jealousy and spite towards the people who made tools for this very community to grow. Farewell Reddit. I will try not to miss you.
[November 1, 2022] After a long time, I am changing the design of my homepage. When everyone is trying to get fancy with Jekyll themes, the old-soul inside me decided to hand craft all the HTML and CSS. The initial HTML skeleton code was based on top of David G. Andersen's homepage at CMU (Thanks Dave!). I changed the banners, spacing and the regular bells and whistles to customize the website. This version stayed on, with only minor tweaks, for about 4 years. Recently while going through the Matplotlib how-to's I saw Nicolas Rougier's. Its is a work of art. The Roboto Mono and the clean spacing made the site look so modern and yet so 90's retro. I went about reading the page source and reverse engineering his CSS's and settings. I am happy with the end product. My SO complains the font is too light and page does not have dark mode. Truth be told, I made this for myself. How others feel about it is secondary.
